Spring Training is Here: Level Up Your Game at the Capital QB Spring Camp

The snow is melting, the turf is calling, and the 2026 football season is closer than you think.

If you’re a quarterback in the Ottawa area, you know that the "off-season" isn't actually a time to rest. It’s the time to build. While everyone else is sitting on the couch, the elite QBs are out here sharpening their tools.

At Capital QBs, we don't believe in "participation trophies." We believe in quality reps, smart coaching, and game-speed execution.

Our upcoming Spring Quarterback Training program is designed to take you from a "kid who throws the ball" to a "field general who leads a team." Starting April 20th, we are hitting the field to help you master the most complex position in sports.

If you’ve been searching for a "qb camp near me," you’ve found it. Here is everything you need to know about leveling up this spring.

Why Spring Training Matters (The "Logic First" Approach)

Most quarterbacks wait until August training camp to start throwing seriously. By then, it’s too late.

When you show up to team camp without a spring foundation, you spend the first three weeks fighting off "arm rust" and fixing footwork mistakes that should have been solved in April.

The Cascade Effect of Poor Preparation:

  1. Bad Footwork leads to a late release.
  2. A Late Release leads to a squeezed window.
  3. A Squeezed Window leads to a forced throw.
  4. A Forced Throw leads to an interception.

By training with us this spring, we break that cycle. We focus on football throwing mechanics and quarterback footwork drills now, so that by the time August rolls around, your mechanics are subconscious. You won't have to think about your feet; you’ll be thinking about the defense.

The Schedule: Two Locations, Two Coaches, Zero Excuses

We’ve made our spring session more flexible than ever. Whether you live in Orleans or Central Ottawa, we have a spot for you.

Mondays: Garneau High School (Coach Ron Raymond)

  • Dates: April 20 – June 8 (7 Sessions)
  • Location: 6588 Carrière St, Orleans, ON
  • Juniors (Ages 10-12): 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM
  • Seniors (Ages 13-19): 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM

Thursdays: Saint-François-d’Assise Gym (Coach Justin Shibley)

  • Dates: April 30 – June 18 (8 Sessions)
  • Location: 35 Melrose Ave, Ottawa (Hintonburg area)
  • Juniors (Ages 10-12): 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM
  • Seniors (Ages 13-19): 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM

The "Combo" Strategy

We highly recommend the Combo Registration ($500). This allows you to train both Mondays and Thursdays.

✓ Pro Tip: Frequency is the mother of skill. Training once a week keeps you steady; training twice a week creates an exponential jump in muscle memory and development.

What We Focus On: The 4 Pillars of Capital QB Training

Our sessions aren't just about throwing "long bombs." We focus on the granular details that actually win games.

1. Elite Football Throwing Mechanics

We break down your kinetic chain. From the grip on the lace to the follow-through of the wrist, we ensure your motion is efficient. Efficiency equals power. Power equals distance and velocity.

  • Symptom: The ball "flutters" or loses steam on 15-yard outs.
  • Diagnosis: Poor hip rotation or a "pushing" motion rather than a "flicking" motion.
  • Solution: Correcting the elbow lead and front-side discipline.

2. Precision Footwork

A quarterback’s eyes follow his feet. If your feet are messy, your eyes are messy. We work on the 1-step, 3-step, and 5-step drops, ensuring you are balanced and ready to fire at the top of your drop.

3. Timing and Anticipation

In the Canadian 12-man game, timing is everything. You have to throw the ball before the receiver is open. We run drills that simulate game-speed timing, teaching you to "throw your receivers open."

4. Pocket Presence and Agility

Quarterback training isn't just about standing in a clean pocket. We use football agility drills to teach you how to move within the pocket while keeping your eyes downfield.

The Junior QB Academy vs. The Senior Program

We don't believe in a "one-size-fits-all" approach. A 10-year-old and a 17-year-old have different physical and mental needs.

The Junior Academy (Ages 10-12)

For our younger athletes, we focus on the L.E.A.D. Philosophy (Leadership, Effort, Attitude, Discipline). At this age, we are building the foundation. We make sure they are having fun while learning the correct way to hold the ball and move their feet. If you're a parent wondering how to support your young athlete, check out our QB Parents Guide.

The Senior Program (Ages 13-19)

The Senior sessions are intense. We expect a high level of focus. We dive deeper into coverage recognition, advanced throwing mechanics, and the mental side of the game. This is where we prepare you for high school ball and beyond.

Misconceptions vs. Reality in QB Training

There are a lot of myths out there about what makes a good quarterback. Let’s clear some up:

Misconception Reality
"You need a big arm to be a great QB." Accuracy and timing beat a "big arm" every single day.
"QB training is only for the starters." Spring is for the backups who want to become starters.
"I can just practice by myself at the park." Without expert feedback, you are just reinforcing bad habits.

⚠️ Warning: Practicing the wrong mechanics for 1,000 reps makes you worse, not better. It builds "permanent flaws" that are incredibly hard to fix later.

Coaching Excellence: Learn from the Best

When you join the Capital QB Spring Quarterback Training, you aren't just getting a "coach." You’re getting decades of experience.

Coach Ron Raymond
As the founder of Capital QBs, I’ve spent years analyzing the 12-man game. My focus is on the "Why." I want you to understand why we move a certain way so you can self-correct during a game.

Coach Justin Shibley
Coach Shibley brings an incredible energy to the Thursday sessions. His focus on technical refinement and game-speed drills helps QBs find that "extra gear" in their performance.

How to Register

Registration is open now, but spots are limited. We keep our coach-to-athlete ratio low to ensure everyone gets individual attention.

  1. Visit the Spring Training Page.
  2. Select your session (Monday, Thursday, or Combo).
  3. Complete the registration form.
  4. Get ready to work.

The Bottom Line:
You can either be the quarterback who waits for the season to start, or the quarterback who dictates how the season goes. Ottawa QB training starts on April 20th. Don't miss your chance to get ahead.

Summary Checklist for Spring Prep

Before the first session on April 20th, make sure you’re ready:

  • Footwear: Bring turf shoes or cleats suitable for a gym/turf environment.
  • Hydration: A liter of water is the minimum.
  • Mindset: Come ready to be coached. Leave the ego at the door.
