Spring 2026 QB Training: Elevate Your Game with Capital QBs in Ottawa

The off-season is where championships are actually won.

While most players are waiting for the snow to fully disappear before they pick up a football, the elite quarterbacks in Ottawa are already calculating their next move. They know that by the time the first whistle blows in August, it’s too late to build a foundation.

If you want to lead your team, command the huddle, and deliver strikes under pressure, your preparation starts now.

Starting April 20th, 2026, Capital QBs is launching our premier Spring Quarterback Training program. This isn't just another "camp" where you stand in line and throw three passes an hour. This is a high-intensity, technically-driven environment designed to bridge the gap between "having an arm" and "being a Quarterback."

Whether you are a Tackle Quarterback preparing for a heavy fall season or a Flag Quarterback looking to dominate the local circuit, our Spring session is the laboratory where your skills are forged.

Meet Your Coaches: The Architects of Performance

At Capital QBs, we don't believe in generic advice. We believe in proven systems. To get to the next level, you need coaches who have lived in the pocket and studied the game at its highest levels.

Coach Ron Raymond brings over 30 years of experience to the turf. As a former Team Canada and U SPORTS QB Coach, Ron understands the "why" behind every movement. His approach isn't just about throwing harder; it’s about understanding the kinetic chain and how to maximize efficiency without risking injury.

Coach Justin Shibley joins the staff to provide elite-level insights into modern QB play. Together, they create a coaching environment that is both demanding and supportive.

The Goal: To ensure that every athlete leaves the field better than they arrived.
The Method: Real-time feedback, video analysis (where applicable), and high-repetition drills that build muscle memory.

The Problem: The "Rust" Factor

Every year, we see the same thing. Quarterbacks show up to August tryouts with "heavy" arms and "slow" feet. They spend the first three weeks of the season trying to find their rhythm instead of leading their team to wins.

The Symptom: Errant passes, poor decision-making, and lack of pocket awareness.
The Diagnosis: A lack of structured, technical training during the critical spring months.

If you aren't training your mechanics in April and May, you are effectively giving your competition a two-month head start.

The Solution: A Two-Pronged Approach to Mastery

Our Spring 2026 program is built on two specific pillars: Mechanics and Footwork. We don't just tell you what to do; we explain the logic behind it.

1. Mastering the Mechanics

A quarterback's throw is a total-body movement. If your sequence is off, your accuracy suffers. During our spring sessions, we dive deep into:

  • The Grip and Carriage: Ensuring the ball is ready to move at a moment's notice.
  • The Lead Step: How your front foot dictates the path of the ball.
  • The Hip Drive: Generating power from the ground up, not just the shoulder.
  • The Follow-Through: Consistency is the key to accuracy.

2. Footwork and Pocket Agility

The best arm in the world is useless if you can’t get your feet set. We focus heavily on Quarterback-specific agility.

  • Drop-back Efficiency: 1-step, 3-step, and 5-step drops that are timed to the route.
  • Climbing the Pocket: Moving away from pressure while keeping your eyes downfield.
  • Off-Platform Throws: Learning how to deliver the ball when the play breaks down.

Locations and Schedule: Where the Work Happens

We’ve secured two of the best venues in the Ottawa area to ensure our athletes have the space and surface they need to succeed.

  1. Garneau High School (Orleans): Our primary outdoor/field location. This is where we simulate game speed, work on deep-ball trajectory, and utilize the full width of the field.
  2. Saint-François-d’Assise Gym: Our indoor technical hub. This environment is perfect for high-rep mechanical work where we can focus on the minute details of your footwork without the interference of the elements.

Ages 10 to 19: We group our athletes by age and skill level to ensure the instruction is relevant. A 10-year-old learning the basics of the snap shouldn't be doing the same drills as a 17-year-old preparing for university scouts.

The "Combo" Option: The Professional Standard

If you are serious about your development, we highly recommend the "Combo" Training Option.

Why the Combo works:

  • Consistency: You are training twice a week instead of once.
  • The Learning Loop: You can work on a specific mechanical tweak in the gym on Tuesday and then apply it to a full-speed field session later in the week.
  • Physical Conditioning: The combo option builds the specific "football endurance" needed to stay sharp in the 4th quarter.

The Bottom Line: Athletes who choose the Combo option consistently see a 40% faster improvement rate in their accuracy and velocity compared to those training once a week.

Flag vs. Tackle: Does it Matter?

Absolutely not. While the games are different, the fundamentals of the Quarterback position remain the same.

Whether you are throwing a "pro-late" ball in a tackle game or a quick-release strike in a 5v5 flag tournament, you need a quick release, a strong base, and elite vision. Our program caters to both disciplines, ensuring you are the most dangerous player on any field you step onto.

Parents often ask how they can best support their young athlete during this transition. If you're looking for extra tips on navigating the recruiting world or just helping your kid stay motivated, check out our QB Parents Guide.

What to Expect on Day One

When you show up on April 20th, come ready to work.

⚠️ Warning: This is not a "stand around and talk" environment. From the moment the warm-up starts, we are moving.

Pro Tip: Bring your own football (if you have one), water, and a notebook. Yes, a notebook. The best QBs are the smartest players on the field. When Coach Ron or Coach Justin gives you a "nugget" of wisdom about coverage recognition or mechanical alignment, you'll want to write it down.

Registration is Now Open

Space in our spring program is strictly limited. We maintain a specific coach-to-athlete ratio to ensure everyone gets the personalized feedback they deserve. Once a time slot is full, we close it: no exceptions.

  • Logic-First Teaching: We explain the science of the throw.
  • Proven Results: Our alumni are playing at the high school, provincial, and collegiate levels.
  • Community: You’ll be training alongside the best QBs in the city, pushing each other to be better every single rep.

Final Thoughts: The Choice is Yours

In a few months, the lights will turn on. The stands will be full. Your teammates will be looking at you in the huddle.

When that moment comes, will you be confident because you put in the work in April? Or will you be wishing you had one more month to prepare?

Don't leave your performance to chance. Join Coach Ron Raymond and Coach Justin Shibley this spring and take the first step toward becoming an elite signal-caller.

The Bottom Line: Greatness isn't given; it's earned on the practice field when no one is watching. We’ll see you on April 20th.
